报告题目:Topological quantum phases in low-dimensional materials

摘要:Graphene-like 2D materials are recently viewed as promising hosts for a rich variety of applications, for instance, high-speed electronics, spintronics, and optoelectronics. The advent of the research in this area is dependent of novel insights into uncommon electronic structures and this has been witnessed by a number of discoveries of topological quantum states in the transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDC). The interplay between crystal chemistry and material physics acts a critical role in the realization of such exotic quantum states. In this talk, I will present the recent discovery of type-II Weyl fermion in MoTe2 and type-II Dirac fermion in PtCh2 (Ch=Se or Te). To resolve the topological energy band structure by ARPES and STM, the successful growth of single crystals is indispensable. Furthermore, our efforts in crystal synthesis have led to high quality 2D materials for further exploration, which has been exemplified by a recent study of topological phase transition induced by crystal structure change in MoTe2. This will also be covered in this talk.
